“T”’ means it is tubular.
“-1” identifies as selfshielded. Used on carbon steel

47
Q

8 Ways to control distortion

A
  1. Use fixtures and other clamping devices to restrain the movement of welded parts and allow the weld metal to stretch during welding.
  2. Use gusset plates, strongbacks, and tie-bar braces to restrain movement of parts during welding.
  3. Do not allow the weldment to overheat in an isolated area to equalize expansion forces
  4. Use a minimum amount of bevel angle and root gap opening on groove welds to reduce the amount of weld metal that will shrink.
  5. Always weld in the same direction with all passes to keep the expansion forces moving evenly in the same direction.
  6. Use chill bars (heat sinks) when welding light gage metals to draw away heat from the weldzone and prevent overheating and excessive expansion.
  7. Do NOT Overweld! This adds nothing to the strength of a weldment, and it increases the amount of heat expansion and weld metal shrinkage.
  8. Use a limited number of weld passes by using larger diameter electrodes or a different welding process to limit weld shrinkage.
