“T”’ means it is tubular.
“-1” identifies as selfshielded. Used on carbon steel
8 Ways to control distortion
- Use fixtures and other clamping devices to restrain the movement of welded parts and allow the weld metal to stretch during welding.
- Use gusset plates, strongbacks, and tie-bar braces to restrain movement of parts during welding.
- Do not allow the weldment to overheat in an isolated area to equalize expansion forces
- Use a minimum amount of bevel angle and root gap opening on groove welds to reduce the amount of weld metal that will shrink.
- Always weld in the same direction with all passes to keep the expansion forces moving evenly in the same direction.
- Use chill bars (heat sinks) when welding light gage metals to draw away heat from the weldzone and prevent overheating and excessive expansion.
- Do NOT Overweld! This adds nothing to the strength of a weldment, and it increases the amount of heat expansion and weld metal shrinkage.
- Use a limited number of weld passes by using larger diameter electrodes or a different welding process to limit weld shrinkage.
