Week 2 Flashcards
What is the purpose of the haemostasis response?
Natural reaction to injury that causes bleeding
Reaction stops bleeding and allows body to being repair process
What triggers the primary haemostasis response?
When blood is exposed to subendothelial collagen released from blood vessels after sustaining injury the primary haemostasis response is triggered
What triggers the secondary haemostasis response?
The secondary haemostasis response is triggered by tissue factor, which is released by tissue cells after sustaining an injury
What steps are involved in PH?
Vasoconstriction of blood vessels
Platelet plug formation (adhesion, aggregation, aggulation)
What steps are involved in SH?
Fibrin is produced from a platelet factor cascade via the intrinsic, extrinsic and common pathways
What is the structure of platelets?
Frgaemnts of cytoplasm derived from megakaryocytes
Biconcave unneucleated structure
What is the main function of platelets?
Blood clotting - prevent bleeding
What is the process of activation of platelets?
Collagen triggers adhesion, aggregation and agglutination of platelets to form a platelet plug
Which factors are involved in the intrinsic pathway?
12+12a, 11+11a, 9+9a, 10+10a
What factors are involved in the extrinsic pathway?
Tissue factor, 7+7a, 10+10a
Which factors are involved in the common pathway?
10+10a, prothrombin, thrombin, fibrin, 13+13a
