An accumulation of wax in the ear canal which can affect the flow of sound to the tympanic membrane.
Cerumen impaction
Are benign, bony growth covered by skin (seen in those who have been repeatedly exposed to cold water).
Exostoses
Is commonly referred to as (swimmer ear), it’s usually caused by pseudomonas bacteria.
External otitis
A painful infection of a hair follicle located in the ear canal.
Furuncle
A. Is a congenital deformity wherein the pinna is either small, abnormally shaped or absent.
B. Term used to describe malformation of the external part of the ear.
Microtia
A. Absence of the ear canal (external of auditory meatus).
B. It can occur in just one side or in both side.
C. Is a malformation of the external ear canal.
D. It’s usually on just one side and it can be a complete or partial closure.
Atresia
The middle ear infection occurs abruptly causing swallowing and redness, fluid and mucus becomes trapped inside the ear causing the child to have a fever, ear pain and hearing loss.
Acute otitis media (AOM)
Fluid (effusion) and mucus continues to accumulate in the middle ear after an initial infection subside, the child may experience a feeling of fullness in the ear and hearing loss.
otitis media with effusion (OME)
The fluid remains in the middle ear for a prolonged period or returns again, even though there is no infection, may result in difficulty fighting new infections and hearing loss.
Chronic otitis media with effusion (COME)
Invasion of the fluid into the mastoid bone.
Untreated OM - mastoiditis
Is a form of membrane thickening produced by hyalinization.
Tympanosclerosis
A small passageway that connects your throat to your middle ear.
The Eustachian tube
When the Eustachian tube might get plugged.
Eustachian tube dysfunction
It’s a non-malignant tumor in ME space, it’s happened when a condition where skin has entered the ME space, also it’s a small sac like tumor made up of protein, fats and tissue, as it grow it is damage the bones in the ME.
Cholesteatoma
Inflammation of mucosal lining of antrum and mastoid air cell system.
