What are some respiratory causes of fatigue ?
- sleep apnoea
- acute infection etc pneumonia
- chronic resp diseases like COPD, Bronchiectasis…
What are some cardiac causes of fatigue ?
Any chronic cardiac disease e.g heart failure
What are some haematological causes of fatigue ?
- anaemia
- lymphoma
- leukaemia
What are some endocrine causes of fatigue ?
- hypothyroidism
- diabetes
What are some musculoskeletal causes of fatigue ?
- MS
- MND

What are some GI causes of fatigue ?
- coeliac disease
- IBD (Crohns or UC)
- malignancy
- hepatitis B or C (chronic)
What are some neuro causes of fatigue ?
- stroke
- parkinsons
- MS
What are some gynae causes of fatigue ?
- heavy menstruation (can cause anaemia)
- pregnancy
What are some psychological causes of fatigue ?
- anxiety
- depression
- poor sleep etc
What blood tests are involved in the ‘tired all the time tests’
- FBC
- TFTs
- Vit D levels
- renal function (U+Es)
- coeliac disease autoantibodies IgA tissue transglutaminase
What type of anaemia is iron deficiency anemia ?
Microcytic anaemia
(small cell)
What type of anaemia is early iron deficiency anemia ?
Normocytic anaemia
What type of anaemia is acute blood loss, in terms of RBC size ?
Normocytic anaemia
What type of anaemia is folate deficiency anemia ?
Macrocytic anaemia (megaloblastic)
