Q

Local color vs perceived color

A

Local color is what we think of as an actual color of an object eg: a yellow school bus, a red apple
Perceived color is the effects of light on an object. The time of day affects the way a color looks. eg; a white wall looks orange at sunset
Artists use these concepts for realistic and dynamic effects.

Q

Color theory and its impact on Impressionist artists

A

Color theory studies how colors interact.
Impressionist artists used it to depict light and atmosphere effectively.
Techniques like simultaneous contrast made colors more vibrant, helping them create dynamic scenes and capture light’s fleeting effects.
Before, strong value contrasts took priority over color.
Impressionists retain coloristic identity by keeping more of their colors in the middle range, neither too dark nor too light.
