Funk rhythm

Unlike earlier R&B funk does away with the older 12/8 shuffle feel in favor of a loud, highly syncopated 4/4 beat. Foulke is characterized by repetition courts do not change very often, musicians must repeat complicated specific and highly syncopated parts

- Carole King began as a songwriter in the brill building in New York City. Wrote “will you still love me tomorrow” song by the Sherelle’s. in 1971 she started recording her own music with the album tapestry which became one of the biggest albums in history

Differences between Motown and a Memphis sound

A

Memphis sound with had soul sweaty and raw relevant and Motown was elegant danceable and more mainstream Detroit sound. Both drew heavily on gospel, doo-wop, and rhythm and blues.

  • Motown has bouncy beats do up harmonies and suave as opposed to Memphis is souls toward sweaty beat
  • Motown’s house band was nicknamed the funk Brothers while stacks is booker t in the
  • Motown sound can be highly contributed to the base syncopated tones of James Jamerson’s bass guitar and the back beat on the snare
