What does U/S stand for?

What is a CT?
X-ray that provides three dimensional images of cross sections of body parts
What is an MRI?
Diagnostic tool that uses a magnetic field to produce images of body structures and organisms
What is a U/S?
A procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves directed at an organ or object to produce a visual image
What is a Hematologist?
Physician specializing in diagnosis, treatment, prevention or investigation of disorders of the blood and lymphatic system
What is a Pathologist?
A physician who examines tissue samples and interprets results, also performs autopsies
What is a Radiologist?
A physician who specializes in interpreting images of the body
What does CBC mean?
Complete Blood Count
What are some types of tests done in Hematology?
RBC, Hematocrit, Hemoglobin, WBC, platelet count
What is a Partial Thromboplastin Time (PPT/APPT/aPTT)
Tests used to evaluate a component of the coagulation system
What does INR mean?
International Normalized Ration, used to report the results of blood coagulation tests
What are the 4 main types of blood?
A, B, AB & O
What is the rhesus or Rh factor?
An antigen on the surface of the red blood cell, if you have it you are positive
What kind of tests would be done in Biochemistry?
Blood sugar levels, electrolytes, BUN - blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, cholesterol and triglyceride levels

Fasting blood sugar
What is a Sputum Tests?
Used to diagnose cause of chest infections such as bronchitis or pneumonia
