Week 1 The Universe and its Contents Flashcards
what are the 6 main components of the Universe and define/describe 5 of them
Planets - Small solid or gaseous objects that don’t support fusion
Stars - Large gaseous objects that generate their own energy through nuclear fusion
Nebulae - Clouds of gas and dust that collapse to form new stars
Galaxies - Structures of stars and clouds bound by their mutual gravity
Radiation - Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation
Space - Just space
define brown dwarfs and explain why they are rare
objects on the borderline between stars and planets with mass between 13-80 times that of Jupiter. They can have nuclear fusion using deuterium rather than hydrogen but deuterium is very rare which is why they are rare
