Week 1 Study Materials Flashcards
FIRST 4 LINES of the FIRST Stanza of Poem
There are hermit souls that live withdrawn
In the place of their self-content;
There are souls like stars, that dwell apart,
in a fellowless firmament;
First Stanza of Poem (8 lines)
There are hermit souls that live withdrawn
In the place of their self-content;
There are souls like stars, that dwell apart,
in a fellowless firmament;
There are pioneer souls that blaze the paths
Where highways never ran-
But let me live by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.
Second Stanza of Poem
Let me live in a house by the side of the road,
Where the race of men go by-
the men who are good and the men who are bad,
As good and as bad as I.
I would not sit in the scorner’s seat
Nor hurl the cynic’s ban-
Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man
First AND Second Stanza of Poem
There are hermit souls that live withdrawn
In the place of their self-content;
There are souls like stars, that dwell apart,
in a fellowless firmament;
There are pioneer souls that blaze the paths
Where highways never ran-
But let me live by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.
Let me live in a house by the side of the road,
Where the race of men go by-
the men who are good and the men who are bad,
As good and as bad as I.
I would not sit in the scorner’s seat
Nor hurl the cynic’s ban-
Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man
Zeta OPENING Prayer
Oh, Lord, our Heavenly Father, we come to thank Thee for the blessings Thou has bestowed upon us.
We ask Thee to be our shield of protection and to make our lives such that they may be examples for others to follow.
Help us at all times to be kind and honest, and to do those things which are pleasing in Thy sight.
All these things we ask in Thy name, Amen.
Zeta CLOSING Prayer
Help us, Oh Lord, to be a protection. One for the other while we are apart.
Zeta Hymn
With fervent hearts we pray
For you, Zeta, each day
You’ve always stood for right
Rather than for might
We’ll love you ever
And forsake you never.
When Zeta calls we’ll answer one and all
(Chorus)
Zeta Phi Beta, we love you so!
Your very name set our hearts aglow
You’re brave and you will see that
Zeta Phi Beta means victory
