Week 1- RIBONUCLEIC ACID Flashcards
Non coding regions be ween exons.
Introns
DNA sequences on chromosomes that code for amino acids/proteins.
Exons
All hereditary information for an individual
Genome
Relationship between sequence of bases in DNA or its RNA transcript &sequence of amino acids ni proteins.
Genetic code
Pentose sugar with nitrogen base attached.
Dephosphorylated nucleotide. Adenosine, guanosine, cytidine, thymidine.
Nucleoside
Building blocks of DNA &RNA. Apentose sugar with nitrogen base attached to 1C’ & 1-3 phosphate groups attached ot 5°C. Sequences always written in 5’ to 3’ direction
Nucleotide
Nitrogen bases with 2 C-N rings (A, G).
Purines
Nitrogen bases with single C-N ring (C, T, U.)
Pyrimidines
Bonds that join nucleotides ni nucleic acid. 5 phosphate group of 1 sugar attaches to 3’ hydroxyl group of adjacent sugar. Amolecule of H20 splits off.
Phosphodiester bonds
Purine from 1 strand of nucleic acid &pyrimidine from another strand joined by __________
Adenine forms __________ with Thymine or Uracil. Guanine forms _________with Cytosine
HYDROGEN BONDS
2 H BONDS
3 H BONDS
Purine from 1 strand of nucleic acid &pyrimidine from another strand joined by HYDROGEN BONDS _ Adenine forms 2H BONDS
with Thymine or Uracil. Guanine forms_ 3 H BONDS _with Cytosine
Base pairing
Carbon-nitrogen ring structures attached to C1’ of sugar ni DNA &
RNA: adenine (A), guanine G), cytosine (C), thymine (T), &uracil
(U).
