Language disorder
an impairment in comprehension and or use of spoken, written, or other communication symbol system.
Language disorder involves one or more language systems:

Morphology (form)
the language system that governs the structure of words and how different word forms are constructed. (teach-er, care-less, un-happy)
Phonology (form)
the sound system of any given language and the rules that regulate the combination of those sounds. ( P-op, SH-eep, D-og)
Syntax (form)
The language system that regulates the order and combination of words to form sentences as well as the elements. (He is running fast vs. Running is he fast)
Semantics (content)
the language system that determines the meaning of words and sentences. (literal & implied meanings, irony, multiple meanings of words, bank vs. river bank.)
Pragmatics (use)
the language system that regulates how to combine the above language components in a way that is functional and socially acceptable for communication. (taking turns, eye contact, non verbal cues, gestures, pointing)
Metalinguistics
ability to think about and discuss language oral or written. correcting errors, breaking down words for meaning, word order.
Metacognition
ability to be aware and discuss ones own thought process.

services through federal legislation for children with disabilities ages 3-21. services end on 22nd bday.
Public Sector

-public schools/state funded early intervention (birth-3 years)
-regulated by public law/federal/state legislation
Part C
Early intervention for children with disabilities birth - 3 years. services end on 3rd bday and transfer to “part b”
