Week 1 Lecture 1 Flashcards
Mechanics
Is a branch of physics that is concerned with the motion and deformation of bodies that are acted on by mechanical disturbances called forces
Biomechanics
Study of the structure and function of biological systems by means of methods of mechanics
Kinematics
Describing what’s going on in the motion. The position of the person
Kinetics
Can’t see what’s going on, it ha san effect on the motion
Application of biomechanics to sport science
Technique improvement/ development
Injury prevention
Equipment development

Scalar
Scalars
Are fully defined by their magnitude (number)
Eg - inject has a mass of 2kg
Vectors
Are fulled defined by magnitude and direction
Eg a force of 2 N PULLS AN OBJECT IN A SPECIFIC DIRECTION
Are reperesented as arrows= they show direction and the length represents the direction and magnitude of the vector respectively
Can only add and subtract vectors as a like for like
Vector components
Every vecto can be represented as a sum of 3 vectors which are alleged with the axes of the Cartesian coordinate system and whose magnitudes are equal to the projections of vector of interests on the corresponding axis
Magnitude of the vector
A= square root of a2x+a2z
