Week 1 Homeopathy Philosophy & Theory Flashcards
Global Sensation
Run’s through different aspects of a person’s case.
Hippocrates 4th century BC
“Through the like, disease is produced and through the application of the like it is cured.”
Rational Medicine
Scientific medicine must conform to at least 3 requirements:
It must be based on facts, must be rational and logical, and demonstrably true.
Spanish Flu
1918-1919
Organon of Medicine
Hahnemann’s seminal work. First published in 1810. 6th edition 1842. Lays out the tenants of the practice of homeopathic medicine.
Vital Force
The energy given off by the spirit that resides within all things. Qi, Ki, prana, vital energy are different names for the same energy. “Man shall not live on break alone.”
Materia Medica
The body of information that has been compiled regarding the medicinal qualities of all the substances in homeopathy. Thousands of substances make up this body of information. The Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (HPUS) is maintained by the FDA, and has been since 1938.
Similia Similibus Curantur
Like cures like. Mentioned in the 4th century by Hippocrates. Coined by Paracelsus in the 16th century. Again, mentioned by Hahnemann in the 19th century.
Concomitants
Symptoms that happen in tandem. Perspiration during H/A, diarrhea during vomiting, chills during stool, etc. These are usually found as subrubrics or “accompanied by”. This is in contrast to ‘Alternating symptoms’.
Antidote
Something that stops or blocks the action of a remedy. Medicines and patient antidotes differ
Schuessler’s 12 Tissue Salts
Cell salts are the remaining inorganic salts after tissue has been burned. Schuessler believed that many diseases where a result of imbalances in these ‘cell salts’. Made in X potencies. They are all understood as homeopathic remedies as well with substantial materia medica and entries in the repertory.
Law of minimum dose
Only give enough medicine to stimulate a response. Excessive, repeated doses can cause an aggravation.
If an aggravation occurs:
1) try to have the patient wait it out. 2) If it is too intense and the patient cannot tolerate it, have them antidote the remedy with Tiger Balm, Ben-Gay, Camphor
Level 1 Diagnosis/CC
So, what is happening?
What is the problem?
What is it like?
Level 2 Facts
How do you feel?
How does it affect you?
How does this impact you?
