What is a user?
A user is a person who uses the system.
What is an interface?
An interface is the part through which the user interacts with the system.
What are some physical interfaces input examples?
knobs, buttons, sliders, levers, tabs, handles, sockets, keys, eyes, ears, nose
What are some physical interface output examples?
signs, speakers, screens, plugs, horns, buzzers, bells, paper, charts, globes.
What are some virtual interface input examples:
text field, submit & radio buttons, checkbox, slider, pull down, picker, menu.
What are some virtual interface output examples:
text field, sound, chart, grid, tree, progress bar, alert, tool tip, cursor.
What is information architecture?
Information Architecture is the study of the structure of organized data.
Information is the organization of data usually for the purpose of telling us something. Architecture is the study of structure.
What are the six application creation stages?
- Ideation
- Strategy
- Scope
- Structure
- Skeleton
- Surface
What is ideation?
Creative time to think of what app to build. Often includes brainstorming and mind maps.
What is strategy?
The plan to balance what users needs/wants from the app and the company objectives such as business model, marketing or educational message. Often requires meetings.
What is scope?
The various features and functions of the app and how they fit together. Often researched.
What is structure?
The organization of the application flow. The order of the screens or app states. Often shown with a hierarchy diagram.
What is skeleton?
The arrangement of the navigation and content within a screen or app state. For example, the placement of the menus, buttons, text, images, etc. Shown with a wireframe.
What is surface?
The final look of the application with logo, final content and real interface, etc.
What are the three types of user surveys?
- Structured Survey
- Unstructured Survey
- Blended Survey
