denominator
Proper fraction
this is a fraction whose numerator greater than or
equal to the denominator
Improper fraction
this is a combination of a proper fraction and a whole
number
Mixed fraction
How to simplify properfraction
Step 1. Determine the greatest common factor of the numerator and
denominator
Step 2. Divide both the numerator and the denominator by the greatest
common factor and write the simplified answer
How to simplify improper fraction
Step 1. Divide the denominator into the numerator. The quotient is the
whole number in the mixed fraction. The remainder is the new
numerator.
Step 2. Determine the greatest common factor of the numerator and
denominator
Step 3. Divide both the numerator and the denominator by the greatest
common factor and write the simplified answer.
This refers to any number written
in a decimal notation
Decimal
This is used to separate the
whole number and the decimal.
