Week 1 AS- Newton's laws Flashcards
Scalar
A physical quantity that only has magnitude or size
Vector
A physical quantity that has magnitude and direction.
Resultant Force
Net force acting on an object.
Equilibrium
An object is in equilibrium when the resultant force and resultant moment acting on it are both zero.
Newton’s 1st Law
An object will remain stationary or continue to move at a constant velocity unless acted upon by a resultant force.
Newton’s 2nd Law
The rate of change of momentum is directly proportional to the resultant force acting on the object and acts in the same direction as the resultant force.
Newton’s 3rd Law
If body A exerts a force on body B, the B will exert a force on body A that is equal in magnitude, opposite in direction, and collinear.
Equation for speed
V = d/t
Equation of Motion 1
a = (v - u)/t
Equation of motion 2
S = 1/2 (u + v) t
Equation of Motion 3
s = ut + 1/2 (at^2)
Equation of Motion 4
v^2 = u^2 + 2as
