Week 1 Flashcards
Objective data
Provide specific, Quantifiable data to assess individuals or groups and to monitor nutrition intervention outcomes
Subjective data
Require the collection of information that is evaluated against sets of standards that are qualitative and less specific
ABCD nutrition assignment
Anthropometry
Biochemical
Clinical
Dietary
Anthropometry
Measurement of the physical damages and gross composition of the body
measures vary with age and degree of nutritional status
particularly useful in circumstances where clinic in balances in protein and energy exist
often a time delay between poor intake losses and changes in anthropometric measures
ISAK accreditation- recommended of performing routine body composition analysis
Waist measurements for overweight
> 94 cm for men
> 80 cm for women
Volume of human
Weight - weight underwater
Density
Weight / volume
Biochemical
Assess several stages of deficiency + used as an assessment tool for doping
- as a result of depletion in tissue stores, measurable reductions may occur in levels of nutrients or metabolites and activity of certain enzymes
- these depletion’s Can be measured by biichemical test or by test that measures physiological or behavioural functions dependant on specific nutrients eg: dark adaptation, taste acuity
- not suitable for field surveys because they are too invasive and require specialised equipment
- most reliable blood tests for nutrient status - iron and vit D
Clinical
Includes medical history and physical examination to detect signs observations made by a qualified examiner and symptoms manifestations reported by the patient associated with nutrition
Signs and symptoms are often non- specify and often only present in the advanced stages of malnutrition
Not common
Dietary
- assess primary stage of deficiency
- dietary intake of one or more nutrients may be inadequate due to
Primary deficiency- low level in diet. Or
Secondary deficiency- conditioning factors such as drug- nutritient interactions, anti-nutrients, disease states etc, that interfere with ingestion, digestion, absorption or utilisation
Diety assessment of individuals
- Measurement of food consumed
- Calculations of nutrient content of foods eaten
- Evaluation of nutrient intake adequacy
Retrospective
Dietary history- “ usual food intake “
Food frequency questionnaire
Prospective
- Food records(3-7 days)
- food surveillance ( covert or known)
- food inventory ( plate waste )
Sdt for vitamin a

Female 1220 ug
SDT FOR VIT C
