Week 1 Flashcards
When is Simulation appropriate
Study of a complex system
Information can be simulated
Experiment with new system designs
When is Simulation not appropriate
If problem can be solved through common sense or analytically
Less expensive to perform direct experiments
What is a system?
Objects that are joined together in some regular interaction
Where is a system change likely to happen?
Outside of the system
What must be decided between the system and its environment?
Boundary
Components of a System (EAA)
Entity - Object
Attribute - Property of an entity
Activity - time period of length
What is a state?
The collection of variables to describe the system at any time
What is an event?
Instantaneous occurrence that might change the state of the system
Whats the difference between endogenous & exogenous
Events occurring inside the system
Events in the environment affecting the system
What are the different types of systems learned?
Discrete - Bank
Continuous - Water Dam
What are the two types of models learned?
Mathematical
Physical
What are the various simulation models
Static - No time
Dynamic - Time related
Deterministic - produce unique set of outputs (dentist)
Stochastic - 1 or more random inputs
