Biography

Character’s Motivation
The idea of relating the content of the story to your own experience or knowledge
Connecting
A scene from an earlier time that interrupts the ongoing action of the story
Flashback
To show or indicate beforehand; to give a glimpse of what may happen in the future
Foreshadowing
Descriptive words or phrases that appeal to the reader’s five senses.
Imagery
A contrast of contradiction between what is stated and what is meant or between what is expected and what actually happens
Irony
The most important point in the paragraph or story. It is usually stated in the topic statement or thesis.
Main Idea
The prospective from which the story is told to the readers or listeners.
Point of view
The place in which a story, poem or play takes place in time, location, and cultural customs in which the action occurs. Clues about time, place and culture are often scattered throughout a story. It could also reflect a spiritual or moral atmosphere.
Setting
The message, moral or meaning about life or human nature that a literary work communicate. The point of highest interest
Theme
The author’s attitudes, beliefs, heritage and traditions are often reflected in his or hers writing. This includes entertainment, persuasion, informational, and or expression of options.
