week 1 Flashcards
Bones located in the human arm
Articulation
when two or more bones are joined, whether they move at that point or not
Ligament
Flexible tissue connecting articular ends of bones
Point of origin
area of attatchement to the bone, stays fixed
Lateral
Perpendicularly away from the midsagittal plane
Medial
Perpendicularly toward midsagittal plane
Proximal
The uppermost portion of a bone; part that is closest to the head when body is in anatomical position
Distal
The lowermost part of the bone
Dorsal
Used in animals to indicate in back, similar to posterior, using the spine as a plane
Ventral
Used on animals to indicate ‘in front’ using the spine as a plane, similar to anterior
Anterior
In front, used in human identification, simular to ventral
Posterior
Behind, used in human anatomical identification, similar to dorsal
Anatomical Position
Body with arms by side, palms forward
Appendicular
The skeleton of the limbs (appendiges)
Axial
The skeleton of the head and trunk
Inferior
lower
Pronation
Dorsal rotation of the wrist
Sagittal Section
Any part of the body parallel to the sagittal suture
Superior
Above
Supination
Palms facing anteriorly, as in anatomical position
Condoyle
Rounded process at the point of articulation with another bone
EX: Occipital Condoyle
Crest
A projecting ridge
