Effective control over records to ensure they are created to provide reliable evidence, can be used as an info source, kept in accordance with legislation, and destroyed when no longer needed.
Records management can be broken down into a set of activities:
Needs analysis, records survey, appraisal, current record keeping systems, non current “ “, storage, disposal, vital records & emergency planning, awareness raising, and ongoing review.
Looking after archives can be categorized into functional areas:
Preservation management, appraisal, collecting policy, acquisition, accessioning, archival processing/arrangement/description, access provision, and advocacy.
