Personality
Conveys sense of consistency, causal force (internal causality), distinctiveness (summarizes what they’re like)
Intrapersonal Functioning
Idea that there are deterministic tendencies that exist within which are elicited from situational factors
Individual differences
No two ppl are exactly alike.
-perspective on personality should address where these individual differences come from
Purpose of theories
- Explain some phenomena .
- predict new information
How is theory evaluated?
- testable
- generate hypotheses
- research tests theory and verifies or suggests changes
- basing theory on one source weakens it
- parsimony
- good theories lead to strong feelings/opinions
