Active ingredient
(ai) The part of a pesticide formulation that controls the pest.
Adjuvant
A substance added to a spray to improve effectiveness of the active ingredient (i.e. emulsifiers, wetting agents, surfactants).
Calibration
The test measurement of application equipment output under typical operation conditions.
Common Name
The active ingredient of a pesticide appearing on the label as the guarantee.
Formulation
the form in which a pesticide is sold. It includes the active ingredient, carriers, diluents, and other materials. (ie SN, DF, EC)
Plot
A division of a replication that receives a single treatment.
Post-Emergence
(POST) A pesticide treatment applied after the crop has emerged from the soil.
Pre-Emergence
(PRE) A pesticide treatment applied before the crop has emerged from the soil.
Pre-Plant Incorporated
(PPI) A pesticide treatment applied before the crop is planted, then worked into the soil.
Pre-Plant Treatment
A herbicide treatment applied before a crop is planted.
Pre-Transplant
A herbicide treatment applied prior to transplanting.
Re-entry Interval
(REI) The length of time that must pass before workers may safely enter an area treated with pesticide without wearing personal protective equipment.

(rep) A set of treatments that are repeated in an experiment

A name given to a product by the manufacturer to identify it.
