Rhythm and metre
Changing metre and tempo, pulse hard to here (intro changes time sig all but one bar), intense syncopation
Harmony and tonality
Atonal, chromatic and dissonant, few chord, no cadences or tonic dom relationships
Melody
Fragmented, angular, cover huge range, prime order in tenor sax (start of expo), klangfarben melody (start of recap), use of mirror canons in accompaniment
Texture
Sparse, mostly in 2 or 3 notes at the same time most heard is 4, mirror canons throughout
Structure
Sonata form, intro (1-5), exposition is repeated, development and recap repeated together, coda is a complex mirror image of intro
Instrumentation
Violin, clarinet, tenor sax and piano. Technically demanding huge leaps and quick changes in articulation and dynamics, violin rapid changes in pizz and arco, leaps greater than an octave some more than 2 octaves
