Q

What is web 2.0?

Define semantic web

A

a collection of technologies for supporting social and business communities and inter-personal ties

As web content is increasingly generated by users, there is a need for it to be ordered.
The Semantic Web is a collaborative movement led by the international standards body, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).The standard promotes common data formats on the World Wide Web. By encouraging the inclusion of semantic content in web pages, the Semantic Web aims at converting the current web dominated by unstructured and semi-structured documents into a “web of data”.

Q

Problem with SNS in the workplace

A

More and more businesses embracing social media and promoting the use by its employees to promote the company and transparency

However there are control issues which could threaten a business’ reputation.

e.g. Recently HMV tweets from the HMV account referred to the ‘mass execution’ of 60 staff members and used the hashtag #hmvXFactorFiring

It is suggested that employers take a holistic approach to managing social media within the organisation including setting a policy to establish standards and boundaries
