Above the fold
The portion of a Web page that is visible once the page has loaded, normally it is the very top.
Applet
An applet is a small, supplemental program that supports a larger program. It typically performs one specific task and runs.
Blog
A portmanteau word from “web log,” a blog is a Web page that serves as a publicly accessible personal journal.
Cascading Style Sheets
Short for Cascading Style Sheets, a new feature being added to HTML.
Host
A computer system that is accessed by a user working at a remote location.
image map
A single graphic image containing more than one hot spot.
listserv
An automatic mailing list server developed by Eric Thomas for BITNET in 1986.
mailing list
A list of e-mail addresses identified by a single name, such as mail-list@sandybay.com.
pop-up window
A window that suddenly appears (pops up) when you select an option with a mouse or press a special function.
search engine
Search engines are programs that search documents for specific keywords and return a list of the documents where the keywords.
status bar
In software the status bar is located at the bottom of the GUI (graphical user interface) that shows the user.
streaming
Streaming or media streaming is a technique for transferring data.
tagging
template
Something that establishes or serves as a pattern for reference.
traffic
The load on a communications device or system. One of the principal jobs of a system.
