Convection current
When hot air and cold air rise and fall in a circle
Sea breeze
When warm air from the the land rises up over the water and the cold air from the sea rushes over the land
Land breeze
When warm air over the sea rises and cold air from the land rushes in to take its place
Coriolis effect
Winds in the northern hemisphere will reflect to the right while in the Southern Hemisphere they will reflect left
jet stream
A band of very fast moving winds caused by differences in temperature
Trade winds
Winds that blow towards the equator
Doldrums
A spot near the equator with very few winds
Prevailing winds
Winds that blow away from the equator
Prevailing westerlies
Winds that blow away from the equator and go W to E
Polar easterlies
Found near the poles and goes E to W
El Niño
Band of warm ocean temperatures that develop off South America
La Niña
A band of cold ocean temperatures that develop off South America
Gulf Stream
Brings warm air/water to the poles
