Weather Card Flashcards
Air pressure
The force exerted on a surface by the air above it as gravity pulls it to Earth.
Tropical
Characteristics of a region or climate that is frost free with high temps.
Celsius
Scale based on 0’ for the freezing point of water and 100’ for the boiling part. Also called centigrade.
Cumulus cloud
Clouds that have flat bases and are often described as puffy, cotton-like, or fluffy in appearance.
Cirrus cloud
From from the ascent of dry air, making the small quantity of water vapor in the air undergo deposition into ice. Made up of ice crystals, which provides their white color. They have a wide range of shape and sizes.
thermometer
an instrument used for measuring and indicating temperature
Tropical depression
An atmospheric low-pressure system originating in the tropics, specifically in which the maximum wind speed is 38 miles per hour.
Ocean current
ocean Currents are the continuous predictable directional movement of seawater driven by gravity wind and water denisty
dew point
The temperature the air needs to be cooled to at constant pressure in order to achieve a relative humidity (RH) of 100%, water droplets begin to condense and dew can form.
Hurricane
a tropical storm with winds of 74 miles (119 kilometers) per hour or greater that is usually accompanied by rain, wind, thunder, storm surge and lighting.
Desert
a large dry area where there is very little rain and few plants
Typhoon
a tropical cyclone with the maximum wind of 34 knot or higher
Humidity
air will have a higher relative humidity if the air is cooler
Forecast
a prophecy estimate or prediction of a future happening or condition
atmosphere
made of the layers of gases surrounding a planet or other celestial
