Q

What is the difference between weather and climate, give an example ?

A

Climate depicts the weather of a larger region over a long time (30+ years), whereas weather shows what is going on in a smaller area over a shorter amount of time, e.g. when you look outside the window you see the weather but if you were a scientist you will be more interested in the climate.

Q

What is relief rainfall?

A

Relief rainfall is when, off the shore there is a mountain, warm prevailing wind travels from the sea and collides with the mountains. It is forced upwards past dew point where it condenses to form clouds which, in turn rains. However, on the other side of the mountain it will not rain because of the shelter. This is called the rain shadow. An example of this would be snowdonia.
