Weather and Climate Flashcards
What is the Kennedy code
We’re responsible, Respectful and we Persevere
what is high pressure
Air molecules are closer together than the air around them. This heavier air sinks and usually brings calmer, sunnier weather.
what is low pressure
Air that is less dense. Molecules are farther apart.
what is climate
A pattern of weather over time in a specific area.
what is salinity
The amount of salt dissolve in water
what is climate zones
Areas with distinct climates that can be defined by weather patterns, latitude, or plant and animal communities
what is Coriolis effect
the Coriolis effect makes things ( like planes or currents of air) traveling long distances around Earth appear to move at a curve as opposed to a straight line
what is precipitation
part of the water cycle when water to the Earth falls
what is weather
The temperature, humidity atmospheric pressure and precipitation at a particle time
what is circulation
The movement if air or water around the earth
what is altitude
the height an object is above ground ( or sea) level
what is latitude
The horizontal lines on a map or globe. It measures the amount north or south from the equator a location is
what is wind
the movement of air due to uneven heating of the Earth’s surface
what is a rain shadow
A dry region to the leeward side of a mountainous area, where less precipitation falls compared to the windward side
