Q

What is an isobar?

A

Lines on a weather map that join up places of equal atmospheric pressure. The closer together isobars are the windier it is.

Q

What is a cold front?

A

Transition zone where a cold air mass replaces a warm one. The cold gradually moves beneath the warm air. It will rain heavily as the warm air is pushed upwards.

16
Q

What is the weather when a warm sector passes?

A

Warm, sunny , clouded and settles with isolated showers.

17
Q

What kind of weather do cold sectors bring?

A

Air cools and condenses quickly , forming clouds and heavy rainfall.

18
Q

What kind of wind do close together isobars bring?

A

Strong winds

19
Q

What kind of rain do warm fronts bring?

A

Steady continuous rainfall as the warm air slowly rises up over the colder it at the warm front

20
Q

What kind of rain do cold fronts bring?

A

Heavy rain as the warm air is forced up rapidly at the cold front.

21
Q

Is an anti-cyclone a low or high pressure system?

A

High pressure system

22
Q

are the isobars close or far apart with anti-cyclones?

A

Far apart.

23
Q

What are the characteristics of high pressure.

A
Spaced out isobars bring gentle winds.
Settled weather.
Winds blow in a clock wise direction.
Very hot heat wave conditions in summer.
Very cold and frosty in winter.
No precipitation
24
Q

What is a okta?

A

Shows the amount of cloud cover.

25
Q

What is temperature?

A

Measured in C

26
Q

What is wind speed?

A

Measured in knots.

27
Q

What is wind direction?

A

Measured in compass direction.

28
Q

What is precipitation?

A

Rain, shower , drizzle , snow , sleet , thunder storm.

29
Q

What factors effect the climate?

A
Latitude or distance from equator
Altitude or height above sea level
Distance from sea
Ocean currents
Prevailing winds
