Q

What are the stages of Factors Affecting Precipitation?

A

1-Westerly wind picks up moisture from the Atlantic.
2-Air is forced to rise over the mountains.
3-Air cools as it rises.
4-Cooling causes cloud droplets to form (condensation).
5-Further cooling causes water droplets to form (precipitation).
6-Air descents, warms and produces drier conditions. This is called a rain shadow.

Q

What impacts does Wet Weather have?

A

Prolonged Wet weather->Cause flooding of properties and businesses.
Wet weather provides water->Essential for farmers growing crops.

Q

What do the Isobars show?

A

Isobars are lines showing equal air pressure. The further the Isobar lines are the less winds there are. The closer they are more wind is.

15
Q

Describe the first stage of a Depression (As the Warm front Approaches).

A

The Air Pressure starts to Decrease.
The Temperature is Relatively Cold.
The Cloud Cover Thins.
The Precipitation is none (no rain).

16
Q

Describe the Second stage of Depression (At the Warm front).

A

The Air Pressure lowers.
The Temperature is warmer.
The Cloud Cover gets thicker.
The Precipitation is steady rain.

17
Q

Describe the Third Stage of Depression (In the Warm sector).

A

The Air Pressure is low and decreases.
The Temperature is at its warmest.
The Cloud Cover is light.
The Precipitation is it has occasional showers.

18
Q

Describe the Fourth stage of Depression (At the Cold Front).

A

The Air Pressure is low.
The Temperature drops and becomes cold.
The Cloud Cover is thick again.
The Precipitation is heavy rain.

19
Q

Describe the Fifth stage of Depression (As the Cold Front passes).

A

The Air Pressure rises again.
The Temperature is cool.
The Cloud Cover is a clear sky.
Precipitation is when the rain stops.

20
Q

What are the Weather conditions in an Anticyclone during Summer?

A

The temperature in the Daytime- Hot because there is more heat entering the Earth.
Temperature at Night- Cold because heat can freely escape as little cloud cover.
Cloud Cover- Very little because of high air pressure as air can’t rise to form clouds.
Precipitation- Dry because there are no clouds or weather fronts to bring rain.
Wind Speed- Light because Isobars are spaced far apart.
Wind Direction- Westerly because wind rotates clockwise around a high-pressure system.

21
Q

What are the Weather conditions in an Anticyclone during Winter?

A

Temperature in Daytime- Cold because there is less heat entering the Earth.
Temperature at Night- Very cold because heat can freely escape as little cloud cover.
Cloud Cover- Very little because of high air pressure as air can’t rise to form clouds.
Precipitation- Dry because there are no clouds and weather fronts to bring rain.
Wind Speed- Light because Isobars are spaced further apart.
Wind Direction- Westerly because wind rotates clockwise around a high-pressure system.

22
Q

What are the 5 features of Weather Station Circles?

A

Oktas
Wind direction
Wind Speed
Temperature
Present Conditions (Precipitation)

23
Q

Describe the symbols of the Present Conditions (Precipitation).

A

’ - Drizzle
Upside down Triangle - Shower
