Weather Flashcards
1
Q
What are the three types of rainfall
A
Convection
Relief
Frontal
2
Q
How does convection rainfall work
A
- Warm air causes water on the ground to evaporate
- Warm air is forced to rise
- Air cools as it rises
- Further cooling causes condensation
- Eventually produces crowds and maybe precipitation
3
Q
Relief rainfall
A
- Warm wet air is forced to rise over high land
- As it rises it cools and and condenses
- The air descends and warms
- No clouds on the leeward side (rain shadow effect)
4
Q
Frontal precipitation is…
A
- Warm air meets cold air
- Warm air is forced to rise
- Warm air cools and condenses
- Precipitation occurs
5
Q
What size are air masses
A
About the size of France
6
Q
