WEATHER Flashcards
Density Altitude
Air Performance gets worse at high-density altitudes (lower air density).
Air Performance gets better at low-density altitudes (higher air density).
Front
Weather fronts divide weather patterns.
Wind Shear
Sudden drastic changes in wind speed, and wind conditions.
Happens at any altitude.
Structural Icing
Occurs when ice forms on the wing.
Can happen in rain or clouds at below freezing.
Thunderstorm Life Cycle
- Cumulus
- Mature
- Dissipating
Humidity
Decreases visibility (Haze) Increases drone efficiency
Unstable Air
Hot & Humid Air
Turbulence
Caused by unstable air (showery)
Stable Air
Poor Visibility
Steady Rain
What is a standard day?
15 degrees Celsius
29.92 Hg (inches of mercury, barometric pressure)
Absolute Alitutde
The height directly above ground level (AGL)
True Altitude
Altitude relative to (above) Mean Sea Level (MSL)
Indicated Altitude
The altitude displayed by the aircraft Altimeter. Altimeters are usually based on MSL or the same as True Altitude.
Pressure Altitude
Indicated Altitude when barometric pressure scale is set to 29.92
Density Altitude
The pressure altitude corrected for non-standard temperature. (Altitude a drone may feel like it at).
