weapons practical study guide Flashcards
1 General safety rule
treat every weapon as if it were loaded
2 General safety Rule
Never a point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot
3 General safety rule
Keep your finger straight and off trigger until ready to fire
4 General safety rule
Keep weapon on safe until ready to fire
M2HB condition 1
ammo in feedway, bolt forward, cover closed, round chambered, safety on
M2HB condition 2
not applicable
M2HB condition 3
ammunition on feed way, cover closed, bolt forward, no round chambered, safety on (in applilcable)
M2HB condtion 4
no belt in feed way, top cover closed, bolt forward, no round chambered, safety on
M2HB Characteristics
crew served, recoil operated, air cooled, belt fed, automatic/single shot
M2HB max effective range
2000 yards/1 nautical mile
M2HB max range
7400 yards
M2HB headspace and timing
conducting headspace gauging pull charging handle so there is no gap more than 1/16” between barrel extension and trunion block, barely able to see notches
M2HB headspace tolerance
between 2-7 clicks
Failure to set correct headspace can result in what
catastrophic system failure causing possible injury or death and irreparable damage to equipment
headspace too loose can cause what
explosive energy will follow path of least resistance which will be back through receiver
if headspace is too tight…
round can get seated too far into barrel and become stuck. bolt face can tear the base of brass off bottom and leave remaining casing inside barrel
if weapon fails timing…
notify armorer for adjustment
hot gun is defined as what
200 or more rounds in 2 minutes or less
m240b condition 1
ammo in feed tray, bolt locked to rear, safety on
m240b condition 2
not applicable
m240b condition 3
top cover closed belt on feed tray bolt forward no round chambered safety off
m240b condition 4
no ammo, top cover closed, bolt forward, no round chambered, safety off
m240b characteristics
automatic, air cooled belt fed gas operated, open bolt,
m240b max effective range
point-800m, area 1800m
m240b max range
3725m
m240b headspace
fixed headspace, 2 and 7 clicks guide applies, faint click known as ghost click which isnt counted as 2 to 7 click, if tightened barrel outside 2 to 7 click notify armorer
bad headspace can result in what
catastrophic failure causing death or serious bodily injury and/or irreparable damage to weapon
m240b hot gun
defined as 200 rounds or more in less than 2 minutes

malfunctions
when weapon fires but not as desired
Examples: broken sights, sticky trigger, cook off, runaway gun-does not interfere with cycle of operation
m2hb runaway gun stopping
stop it by placing selector to single shot or by grabbing charging handle and holding to the rear
m240b runaway gun stopping
twist and break the belt of ammunition or locking bolt to rear and placing weapon on safe
m4 runaway gun stopping
dropping magazine and keeping muzzle pointed in safe direction
stoppages definition
unintentional disruption in cycle of operation
double feed
weapon attempts to chamber 2 rounds, caused by bad extractor or bad ejector
stove pipe
casing doesn’t completely eject ad is caught in ejection port
hang fire
delay in ignition of powder, wait 10 seconds with weapon pointed in safe direction then perform immediate action
misfire
failure of propellant to ignite entirely, wait 10 seconds then perform immediate action
audible pop/reduced recoil
immediately cease fire, possible round still in chamber, do not apply immediate action, remove magazine, lock bolt to the rear, place selector switch on safe, visually inspect bore to ensure projectile is not lodged in barrel, if obstructed verify no live ammo is present and use cleaning rod to drive projectile out
immediate action
tap, rack, bang
remedial action
continuing effort to identify and correct a stoppage once immediate action fails
m240b remedial actions
cock it, shove it, safe it, lift it, sweep it, check it
pull charging handle all the way to the rear locking the bolt, push charging handle forward, place safety on. lift top cover, sweep ammo off feed tray, look for obstructions, check ammo, check mount
m2hb remedial actions
lock bolt to rear using bolt latch, shove charging handle forward, lift top cover, remove ammo, inspect chamber for obstructions, check ammo, check mount
m4/m9 remedial action
