How matchlock musket worked
Trigger moved the burning string to the pan, this sparked the priming powder, triggering an explosion which pushed the shot down the muzzle

Smaller, lighter than muskets
1 hand operation so could be used by cavalry

Lighter, yet still poor mobility and limited range / accuracy

Plug bayonet – prevented firing.
Ring and socket bayonet – 1670’s and 1680’s, were better
