WCS Three Cemcrete Flashcards
- What are the components of CemCRETE? What is the function of each component?
Coarse Particles
- D124 for LiteCRETE slurries
- D181 for LiteCRETE HP slurries
- D166 (coarse sand) or CemD weighting agent for DensCRETE slurries
- D165 (coarse hematite) or CemHD weighting agent for DensCRETE slurries
Medium Particles
- Cement or cement plus silica flour (D66)
- Lightweight blends (Poz blends)
- D179 (lightweight cement additive)
- D188 for Ultra LiteCRETE
Fine Materials
- D164 (CemPLUS stabilizer)
- D178 (CemPLUS Geo)
- D154 (Fine micro silica)
- What properties are needed to optimize a CemCRETE blend?
The correct ratio of coarse, medium, and fine particles
- What is the packing volume factor for CemCRETE?
The PVF is defined as the volume of space occupied by solid particles divided by the bulk volume that the same particles occupy. Optimizing the coarse, medium, and fine particles achieves the packing volume factor.
- What are the temperature limitations for CemCRETE?
34°F – 450°F (BHST)
- What are the advantages of CemCRETE slurries?
- It is a versatile technology that supports a wide range of densities
- The slurry properties are decoupled from the density
- The additive concentration is reduced
- The set cement properties are improved
- How is CemCRETE tested in the laboratory?
The lab testing of CemCRETE is the same as conventional slurries with these exceptions. LiteCRETE must be mixed at 4000 rpm for 5 minutes and 30 seconds. The total mixing energy is the same, but the mixing must be at a low shear to avoid breaking the D124. Squeeze CRETE must have filter paper on the 320 mesh screen when performing a fluid loss test to avoid the microfine particles from penetrating the screen.
- What types of cement can be used to make CemCRETE?
Class G or H cements are normally used, but other types of cements, such as Class A and C can also be used, as well as any commercial lightweight cement.
- How do you change the slurry density of CemCRETE?
By manipulating the percentage of the different adds and by changing the desired porosity
- What is the order of addition for blending the components of CemCRETE?
The dry adds must be well mixed before adding to the water.
- What are the handling and safety procedures for CemCRETE?
The main handling hazard for any CemCRETE is dust. Dust masks should be worn when mixing in the field and the laboratory because of the fine particles. Dust from materials containing respirable crystalline silica can cause lung cancer.
- Where can information on CemCRETE be found?
- Cementing Materials Manual
- CemCRETE Tech Memo
- In Touch
- What is the ideal situation for the use of CemCRETE?
The use of CemCRETE can be applied to any situation as long as it is in the temperature range of 34°F – 450°F (BHST). CemCRETE is better for low density slurries as well as high density slurries. It is better than conventional cement systems and should be applied to all areas.
- How is the volume required for a CemCRETE design determined?
With the CemCRETE Calculator
- Is CemCRETE patented?
Yes
- Is CemCRETE acid resistant / CO2 resistant?
Yes
