Pathogenesis of mono?
EBV.
Infects B cells (CD21) T cells helps to kill the infected B cells.
T cells are atypical.
Lab results for someone with mono?
+ atypical lymphocytes
+ heterophile test
+ anti-viral capsid/nuclear antigen antibodies
increased serum transaminases (infects liver)
possible hepatosplenomegaly
SHOULD NOT play sports bc of spleen rupture risk!
