A

EBV.
Infects B cells (CD21) T cells helps to kill the infected B cells.

T cells are atypical.

Lab results for someone with mono?

A

+ atypical lymphocytes
+ heterophile test
+ anti-viral capsid/nuclear antigen antibodies
increased serum transaminases (infects liver)
possible hepatosplenomegaly

SHOULD NOT play sports bc of spleen rupture risk!
