ways of studying the brain Flashcards
1
Q
what is an FMRI
A
Functional magnetic resonance imaging
2
Q
how does an FMRI work?
A
-identifies changes in the levels of oxygen in the blood
-when a brain area is more active there is more oxygen which shoes up on the scan
3
Q
what do FMRI produce?
A
high spatial resolution 3D images to show what part of the brain is active
4
Q
where is FMRI used?
A
Used to identify what parts of the brain is active (localisation)
5
Q
FMRIs are safer than other methods why? (A03)
A
fMRI are not invasive and don’t use radiation unlike pet scans which use small amounts of radiation
