Two ways to color hair
All over color and dimensional color
When to use all over color
This can be done on any hair length and texture and is used to change the overall color of the hair; also when gray coverage is needed/desired.
Dimensional color
Weaving, slicing, hand painting, and block color
Weaving
fine ribbons of hair color; soft and natural sun kissed look; min of 3 inches or longer in length best for type 1A-B and 2A-B; 1/4 sections split in half drop bottom sectio; lock foils at hair line, crown, center part and side burn
Slicing
thin slice of hair color within a section; stronger than a weave; bold and stripy when done back to back; hair is min of 3in or longer; medium to course textures 3A-4C; 1/4 sections split in half and drop
Hand painting
organic, soft lived in color; customizable dimension; hair is a min 3 in or longer best for natural level 6 or lighter and fine to medium; varies in sections depending of texture, density and desired result
Block color
custom color placement utilizing shapes
Single Process - going darker
Part hair in 5 segments, outline segments being worked on, begin application in the back segments (start area most gray), take 1/4 horizontal sections in back and 1/4 vertical sections on side and mohawk, apply scalp through the ends and both sides of section, ensure proper saturation and process according to manufacturer’s instructions, rinse until water runs clear using post color shampoo and conditioner
Single Process- going lighter
Part hair in 5 segments, out line segments being worked on, begin application in the back segments and work from bottom to top and back to front, take 1/4 horizontal sections in the back and 1/4 vertical sections in the sides and mohawk section, apply 1/2 inch from the scalp to the porous ends, apply to both sides and use hands to work the color into the hair for thorough saturation, process for 10 mins, remix and apply color to scalp and ends, process according to manufactures instructions, rinse until water runs clear post shampoo
Single process- tint retouch
Part hair in 5 segments, outline segments being worked on, begin application in the back segments the area most gray, take 1/4 horizontal sections in the back and 1/4 vertical in sides and mohawk, apply formula to new growth, apply to both sides, refresh mid shaft and ends and process appropriately, rinse until water runs clear
Double Process for virgin hair
Part hair in 5 segments, begin in the back of the head, take 1/8 in horizontal sections in the back segments and 1/8 in vertical sections in the sides and mohawk, apply 1/2 inch to one inch from the scalp to the porous ends, apply to both sides and use hands to work lightener through to saturate, place cotton strip at the scalp in between sections, lighten to 50-75 % of desired result and then remove cotton, outline sections beginning in the back, apply to scalp and ends, process to desired lightness, rinse with cool water for 5 min and shampoo then tone then shampoo and condition
Double Process retouch
Part hair in 5 segments, outline segments being worked on, begin the application in the back segments, take 1/8 horizontal sections in the back and 1/8 vertical sections in the sides and mohawk, apply 1/16 of an inch from the line of demarcation, apply to both sides, process until desired lightness, rinse with cool water and shampoo and tone
