What are radio waves used for?
Transfer sound or information to the public via satelites.
Why is the low frequency of radiowaves bad?
It prevents them sending lots of information.
What are microwaves used for?
Communication, cooking and scientific research.
What can happen from long exposure to microwaves?
Microwaves can be harmful to human health.
What is Infrared Radiation used for?
Thermal imaging camera and communication.
What can prolonged exposure to IR waves cause?
Damaged eyes like scotoma.
What is visible light used for?
Fibre optic communications and spectroscopy (treatment for the skin).
What can visible light cause?
Light pollution that may disorientate animals from their natural habitats.
What is UV used for?
Sterilisation and Forensic analysis.
What can UV cause?
Skin cancer, burns and permanent scarring of tissue.
What are X-rays used for ?
Produce images of tissues and structure inside the body for medical use. Also for security systems and research equipment.
What does the X in X-ray stand for?
Unkown because the person who discovered it didn’ know what it was.
What are gamma rays used for?
Medical imagine such as gamma ray radiography and for treating cancer. They are also used for sterilisation and studying the universe.
What can gamma rays cause?
Organ damage, cancer and environment contamination.
