Waves Vocabulary Flashcards
Frequency
The numbers of cycles a wave completes in a period of time
Period
A time period is the time needed for one complete cycle or vibration
Wave length
The distance between one peak and the next on a wave
Crest
The highest point of a wave
Trough
This is the minimum or lowest point of a wave
Medium
This is any substance that carry’s the wave
Amplitude
Height or strength of a wave
Longitude wave
A wave that vibrates in the direction as it travels
Electromagnetic spectrum
The range of wavelengths or frequencies over witch electromagnetic radiations extend
Transverse wave
A wave vibrations at the right angles to the direction of its propositions
Completion
The action of compression or being compresed
Rarefraction
Diminution the density of something
Refraction
The change of direction of a wave passing from one medium to another caused by its change in speed.
Reflection
To strike a surface and bounce back in the opposite direction
Diffraction
Bending of waves around corners of obstacles.
