Waves-physics. Flashcards
What is the angle between the undulations of the wave and the direction of travel?
90 degrees
What is the motion of waves travelling through water?
Transverse motion
Undulations
What happens when water waves hit a surface?
They are REFLECTED.
The angle of incidence is the same as the angle of reflection.
When two waves meet they affect each other - what is this called?
SUPERPOSITION
What is the amplitude of a wave?
It is the height of the wave from the top of the undulation to the bottom.
What is the wavelength of the wave?
It is the length of the wave between the same points on a wave.
What happens when 2 waves are in phase (step)?
The add together - the amplitude is greater
What happens when 2 waves are out of phase (step)?
They cancel each other out.
What is the up and down movement called?
Undulation.
