Waves & Optics Flashcards
1
Q
What is the equation for phase difference?
A
2πd / λ
2
Q
What is the equation for calculating frequency?
A
Frequency, f = v / λ
3
Q
What is the equation for frequency of a vibrating string?
A
Frequency, f = 1 / 2L √T / µ
4
Q
What is the equation for fringe separation?
A
Fringe separation, w = (λ D) / s
5
Q
How does increasing wavelength, frequency and speed of a wave affect fringe separation?
A
According to w = (λ D) / s, increasing λ will increase fringe separation.
According to λ = v / f, increasing v causes λ to increase. Effectively, increasing velocity causes fringe separation to increase.
Furthermore, increasing f causes λ to decrease. Effectively, increasing f causes fringe separation to decrease.
