Waves Flashcards
Learn parts of a wave, how different waves work, and labeling a simple mathematical wave model.
What is the crest?
The highest point on a wave
What is the trough?
The lowest point on a wave
What is the origin of resting on a wave?
The middle of the wave
What is the wavelength?
The wavelength is how far apart two waves are
What does wavelength measure?
How long a wave is
How can you find wavelength?
Measure the distance between a crest and another crest or a trough and another trough.
What is amplitude?
Amplitude is a measurement of the amount of energy transferred by a wave
What does amplitude measure?
the energy being passed in the wave
How can you find amplitude?
Measure the distance between the origin and a crest or the origin and a trough.
What is a frequency?
The number of waves that pass a point in a certain period of time
What does frequency measure?
???
How can you find a wave’s frequency?
By counting how many crests or troughs there are in a certain amount of time
What is the unit for measuring frequency?
Hertz (hz)
What is the relationship between amplitude and energy?
The higher the amplitude, the more energy it produces. The lower the amplitude, the less energy is produced.
What is the relationship between amplitude and sound?
The higher the amplitude, the louder the sound. The lower the amplitude, the softer the sound.
