Waves Flashcards
What are transverse waves
particles vibrate at 90 degrees perpendicular to the direction of energy transfer
What are longitudinal waves?
Particles vibrate parallel to the direction of energy transfer
What is frequency
the number of waves that pass through a fixed point in 1 second
What is wavelength
the distance from one peak to the next peak
What is a peak
The highest point of a transverse wave
What is amplitude
The distance from the peak to the rest position.
What is time period
The time taken for one complete cycle of the wave
What is compression
A region of high position where the particles are closer together than normal
What is rare fraction
A region of low pressure where the particles are further apart than normal.
