Waves Flashcards
Wave
The oscillation of particles or field
Cycle
One complete vibrate of a wave
Displacement
How far a point of the wave has moved from the equilibrium( undisturbed point)
Amplitude
Maximum magnitude of displacement from equilibrium
Wavelength
The length of one whole wave cycle from crest to crest or trough to trough
Period
The time taken for a whole cycle to complete or pass a given point
Frequency
Number of cycles per second passing a given point
Phase
A measurement of the position of a certain point along the wave cycle
Phase difference between particles
Between two particles is the difference in how far along the cycle the particles have moved
Reflection
A wave bounced back when it hits a boundary
Refraction
The wave changes directions as it enters a different medium
Frequency is the inverse of the period so what is the calculations
Frequency=1/period
F=1/T
Wave speed(c) calculation
Wave speed= distance travelled/time taken
Speed of wave calculation
Wavelength x frequency
Path difference between two waves
Is the difference in length they have travelled from their common source to their destination
