Waves Flashcards
Conditions for stationary waves
Two waves travelling at the same speed in opposite directions overlap.
They have the same frequency and wavelength and amplitude.
Describe the Doppler effect.
The doppler effect is when the frequency emitted by a source is different from the frequency observed by the observer due to movement of the source relative to the observer.
State the difference between a stationary wave and a progressive wave in terms of the phase of two adjacent vibrating particles.
Adjacent particles in phase.
Wdym adjacent??
State what is meant by an antinode of the stationary wave.
1.Position where amplitude is maximum.
2.
λ = n x d
V = fλ
Steps to calculate the distance between a node and an adjacent antinode.
Use this to find frequency provided speed of wave is v ms‐¹
Dist = λ/4
d = total length of tube / ???
How do you know whether to add or substrate cells if they are in series.
if they are in the same orientation when you follow the wire as if it were horizontal(-+…….-+), add.
If they are opposite (-+…..+-) then substract.
Cells in series are connected +ve to +ve and -ve to -ve
