wave vocab Flashcards
Wavelength
the distance between successive crests of a wave especially points in a sound wave or electromagnetic wave.
Frequency
the rate at which something occurs or is repeated over a particular period of time or in a given sample.
Crest
A crest is a point on a wave with the maximum value of upward displacement within a cycle. A crest is a point on a surface wave where the displacement of the medium is at a maximum. A trough is the opposite of a crest, so the minimum or lowest point in a cycle.
Trough
wave trough. The lowest part of the wave between crests. See also crest; wave. Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms.
Amplitude
The amplitude of a periodic variable is a measure of its change in a single period. There are various definitions of amplitude, which are all functions of the magnitude of the differences between the variable’s extreme values. In older texts, the phase is sometimes called the amplitude
Reference line
A reference line also referred to as a baseline, is a user-defined vertical or horizontal line in the graph. … You can display one or more reference lines in a graph visualization, using different line types. Reference lines are available if the X or Y axis contains a metric.
Medium
the intervening substance through which impressions are conveyed to the senses or a force acts on objects at a distance.
