Wave nature of light Flashcards
Dispersion
separating out of the different wavelengths present in light
Recombination
second prism will recombine the constituents of white light to again form white light
Primary colours
Red, Green, Blue
Secondary colours
2 primary colours of equal intensity are mixed
Complementary colours
Primary and secondary colour = white
Electromagnetic spectrum
Act as a wave
C = F(lambda)
also known as electromagnetic radiation
UV light/radiation
Red - violet
cause some substances to fluoresce ( vaseline)
effects photographic light
causes sunburn, harmful to eyes, skin cancer
produces vitamin d in skin
can cause photoemission
Infrared light
longer than red therefore not visible
radiated heat
heat proportional to IR radiation
detected using blackened thermometer bulb
properties of IR
Pass through fog and mist
causes substances it falls on to heat up
Photograph in darkness
